Not sure it's age but I'm with you Syd. My time is better spent arranging for forthcoming open studios and seeking out new galleries following the demise of a couple where I have been exhibiting. Apart from personal esteem Patchings does seem to me to be a lot of work and travel for little or no return.

I'm to busy with far flung holidays. Besides which Patchings is a bit awkward to get to for me. It would be great if it could be circulated around the country. I feel that the South West is largely ignored, by government and everyone else. There are only 3 months in the year that any outsider was to know about Devon and Cornwall.

Well I've had another go after my success last year, as I have said previously if you make the first cut and have a work accepted for the exhibition you can send it by courier, that's what I did last year and they will return it to you if it doesn't sell. Initially all you have to do is send over your jpeg's and of course a very modest entry fee so what could be simpler than that?.
For the award winners there are some great prizes up for grabs and a chance to have your work shown in one of the magazines along with the other winners.
There is still time to enter as the deadline is 31 March so for those of you who do enjoy competitions but are undecided why not give it a shot, you may be sitting on a winner.

Have I mucked it up? How could I have mucked it up? All I asked was a simple question, innit.....? (I only arst.... where does that line come from? The Army Game, I think; superannuated TV series with Alfie Bass and Harry Fowler and Bill Fraser ..... ah, memories!)
I don't know what happened to the little dog compo - didn't enter my painting of Charlie in the end, because a) I don't much like competitions, b) I hadn't painted her (Charlie is a she) for this competition so didn't think I should. I can tell you're all impressed by my ethical stand....

I confess I have rarely bothered with competitions. I think it is because I often don't understand what judges are looking for, and my stuff tends to be occasionally odd-ball. I'm happier beavering away in my own corner, rather like Syd. I don't look for worldly awards, really; my rewards come from simply doing the artwork, the processes.
But....in some senses, competitions do tend to act as a stimulant to produce some paintings (even if you never submit the things).
I have forked out the entry fee and am sorting the images out; for better or worse....as they say, you gotta be in it to win it.

Hi Sylvia.....What exactly do you do to enter a competition? Inspired by your Where are you all? I have just 'entered' a competition for a copy of one of David Bellamy's super books . But, expecting to submit a painting, all I was asked for was to enter my email address, which I did, and then was thanked for my submission! Help!!
