The Royal Manor of Portland is an island with 12000+ inhabitants, just off the UK south-coast by Weymouth, Dorset. It is a ‘tied’ island connected to the mainland by a strip of stoney beach known as Chesil (the beach is 18 miles long and mostly difficult to navigate except at the beginning- Portland and the other end at Abbotsbury). However, there is a bridge and causeway which joins it to the mainland, making it easy to get there.
July 29th to August 7th is our time to celebrate all that is the SPIRIT of PORTLAND. Artists are drawn to the island for the incredible light (even in foggy weather). There will be many activities going on during the 10 day event, music, dance, special events at shops including an exhibition of work & meet the artists (10.30 - 2.30) by 4 resident artists: Liz Wright, Holly Norris, Stephen Yates and Podi Lawrence.
