These are the winners of the Jackson's competition.
Takes all sorts.
Very true 😄. You have to pick what links with your own work re competitions……
Good enough reason NOT to enter next year - I’m obviously on a different planet!
Like the house and the tree root thingy
I don’t know anything about the Jackson competition, but considering some of the atrocious wins in other competitions I think these are fine.
The one with the two figures in the foreground reminds me of the style of Edvard Munch. There's also one like the Bar at Folies Bergère which might be interesting. Apart from that, others don't float my boat.  But then I'm a traditionalist.
Yes, I see the Manet influence now Norrette - that is an interesting observation… that one does have some merit after revisiting it!

I prefer your planet Alan.
I wasn't going to express an opinion; let's just say that I won't be bothering next year.
What’s actually the problem with these paintings?
The problem, if it is a problem, is not the paintings.  I think people should be able to paint how they like.  One thing is certain in life…you can’t please everybody.  So don’t try.  The first person you have to please is yourself, and if you’re serious about your art, that’s hard enough for anyone. The problem is competitions, these aren’t the best entries, they are what the chosen judges THOUGHT the best.  A different set of judges,  different result.  I expect if there is an exhibition of entries, there will be some you admire.  It’s why I don’t enter competitions.  Choosing the winners is just somebody’s opinion.  While I don’t like competitions I DO like exhibitions.  Competitions usually result in exhibitions, so, unlike me, I’m glad some people are prepared to enter competitions.  You can’t have it both ways.  Maybe you need to be an optimist to enter these things.  I’m not. Just an opinion. By the way, did you hear about the optimist who drowned in a bath half-full of water?
