I was vaguely familiar with Ileana Hunter's work, so hadn't looked at this before - I see it's an Etsy shop, and the price variations are staggering, unless my eye is playing tricks on me - £14.50 odd for some, £143 for others, including a drawing of Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow. How does that work, I wonder? I also wonder about Pat's comment above - "I wonder how much the celebrity photographs cost her?": a very tactful way of wondering whether she's actually bought them or sought permission to use them at all, I think... It's hard to see there can be much profit in a drawing for which you've had to pay a fee to use the original, then bought the Bristol board (presumably) .... but that's a business analysis, not an aesthetic one.
Going on to which - I've looked at these images and wondered what I've got against them; they're undoubtedly very accomplished, there's a high degree of skill involved which few of us could muster, I suspect, but the majority of them do look as if they're very clever, very exact copies of publicity photos in magazines etc - and those customarily have all the depth of a puddle. There's a highly wrought surface, but I'm not always seeing much beneath it.
However: perhaps that reflects the truth that there really ISN'T much beneath the surface veneer with some of these people, and I did like the drawings of Leonardo di Caprio, Lauren Bacall, and Josephine Baker, in which I think the surface was pierced to show something more interesting.

I'm with Sylvia on this one, they also leave me cold, stone cold in fact. I've never been a lover of exactly copied portraits from photo's, I don't see the point of it but there are a fair number posting on the gallery so it is a popular pastime, Elvis, other stars and long gone actors making the headlines on a daily basis.
As for the quality of this Ileana's work, frankly it is good but I do actually believe that there are many artists on POL who could, if they so wanted produce drawings to this standard and only modesty prevents me from including myself amongst that list.
