Hi I'm a bit nervous about starting a new thread as a complete newcomer, and a total novice to boot, but I haven't seen anything on this topic. Basically, I have a problem in that I'm mainly inspired by landscape & I would like to take more inspiration directly from the places that I visit. However, I'm at a very early stage in my development (hopefully!), so I'd be hugely embarrassed at the thought of anyone looking over my shoulder. Sudden evaporation of any confidence guaranteed! Consequently, my only work so far has resulted from finding an inspiring location, taking a range of still photos & then trying to work from them back home. It doesn't feel right - even though I depart quite a bit from the actual images, I still feel it's making me too 'tight'. I wondered if a better alternative would be to take a short video of the scene, and then have it replay like a tape loop (then, for instance, clouds or the sea would actually move & you could probably hear the latter). I wonder if it might give a hugely enhanced sence of place and recollection. I wouldn't ask this question, rather I'd simply try it, except that I've no prospect of a mains electric supply for quite some time - so it wouldn't be easy to set up! (no TV for instance, v limited power to computer!). I'd appreciate anyone's thoughts - & maybe the topic could provide an interesting divertissement for those more generously endowed with electricity!
