Incredibly skilful artist as were all Victorian painters it seems. As Robert says they tend to be a romanticised view of their world but I guess 'social reality' wouldn't be commercially viable.
An Extensive Landscape with Harversters. This is a day, hard to say, what time of day but a pleasant time of day, I would say. This painting gives you a warmth and comfort when you look at it. You know it's going to be a hard days graft, it's going to be tiring but you will find comfort in being close to the land and working as one. You will sleep soundly with the hint of freshly cut grain in the night air and you will be glad to get up and do it all over again the following morning. That's what this painting say's to me. Smashing artist.

And Denise waxes lyrical....bet it piddles down next day .
The harvest wouldn’t grow without a good piddle down at regular intervals!
We do tend to moan about the rain but we would be in a lot of bother without it. The detailing in this painting is amazing, even the background seems to have a lot of detail, what skill is needed to achieve this standard of work. I do love to see such detail but I also have a love of the more impression type a sort of half way house is my ideal I think.
Yet another great artist! I was impressed by his harvest scenes but the one below stood out! The reflections are perfection
Stunning work! Oh those trees!  I rather like the sea/riverscape though.  Anyone know where it is?  Dartmouth?
The title is Leith Hill, from Broadmoor, Surrey. It almost looks like a photo doesn’t it, which wouldn’t normally impress me, but this is stunning.
I'm sorry to say it's too twiddly and twee for me but Ido recognise the skill of the artist and the attraction of his work for some but sadly it just doesn't really work for me.
It’s great to have different view’s  and options Michael  , thank you for your honest contribution this is just what I hoped for when staring the thread .
We are all different Paul. I do a lot of watercolours where most of my work comes from (just posted one in the gallery) and sonmetimes I feel its a bit too representational - also posted a bit of abstract pen and wash work which I get more enjoyment from.
Michael would you be willing to add a name or two to the list , I feel the more that are suggested the more diverse the  artwork  please don’t feel obliged  too.
