Doreen Fletcher 1952- is a British painter and teacher born in Stoke on Trent . She depicts urban landscapes which include Londons East End where she live , latterly she has painted views of Southern France . Doreen completed a Foundation Course at Newcastle School of Art in 1972-73 ,she gained her distinction at Croydon College of Design and Art in 1973-76.  I hope you enjoy my selection of her work and find some to share with us .
I like this style of ‘capturing everyday life’ and scenes before they are forgotten.
These every day scenes make you think, 'Gosh, I could do something like that' even though you know you could not.  It's a special skill to make the ordinary look, well, 'ordinary' even though that is not we are used to when looking at a painting.

The late John McCombs described it as "capturing the scene before the bulldozers get there".
An interesting choice of subject matter, which she describes as painting ‘the almost gone’.  There is an excellent article on an interview with her on the Spitalfieldslife.com website where she talks in detail about her early life and her art.  A fascinating read.

Nice pics Jenny the interview was really interesting thanks for the info. Some more of her paintings, I know that they are set mainly in the east end of London, but they really could be most city’s big towns in the sixties, seventies. I spent very little time in my home city of Leeds but they do remind me of the scenes , or is it just pure nostalgia kicking in . The artist at work.
