Thanks for the reply, Sandra. One which sent me searching for images and videos. Wow! nature has constructed many amazing views and seeing these mountain ranges from different angles, there's no exception there. Outstanding. Even though I was in bed at the time of viewing I found myself eyeing up my hiking boots.

You'd be able to hike in the area around Mt Cook, there are various hiking trails. You wouldn't be allowed ashore at Milford Sound though, and in that area there are very few places one could even go ashore as the cliffs are steep right down to the water. You'd have to view it from what I am sure is a pretty pricey boat trip.

The background came across to me as a showery squall over the mountains, we all see things differently :)
I'm sure your granddaughter had many wonderful photos and many stories to tell. I can imaging the time it takes to get there and then getting to where you want to be, but worth the travel.
First step taken, have got a renewal form for my passport, its a start.

Carol, my granddaughter flew to NZ not long ago. It’s a wonderful country with dramatic scenery but a very long flight from here!
