I know it not everyone’s cup of tea but there are some superb botanical artist both here on POL and the internet in general. So much skill needed when you loom lose at some of the detail work that is produced in all the art mediums . I actually start with painting flowers as it was easier for me to do at thi e due to mobility problems etc .  I’m opening with two artist the first I only came across yesterday when looking up material for the thread , the second is in my mind and inspiration in many ways as she travelled the world in the Victorian period. It was no mean achievement for any man in those day but for a woman to go out into the relatively unknown was astonishing. Janet Pulcho  Marianne North

I saw an exhibition of Marianne North's work on a visit to Kew Gardens.  Her output was amazing, and valuable for botanic history. Her own named gallery in the gardens. Janet Pulcho's work is impressive - on the scale of Georgia O'Keefe

I went to Kew a year ago, I knew they had botanical paintings but was quite unprepared for the impact the galleries would have. Here's the Marianne North Gallery.... ...I hadn't expected to see them literally covering all of the wall space.  Quite an impact.  Everyone a gem.  As subject matter it isn't something that  interests me for my own  work, but you can't fail to be impressed by the talent on show. Fantastic work. I introduced Marianne North a while ago on the Inspirations’ thread, having seen a tv programme about her, her travels and paintings. Before that I had never heard of her. I haven’t yet been to Kew but it’s somewhere on my list! The gallery looks amazing. Dixie, your first three are stunning.

Two modern botanical artists , Sally Strawson. Greta Corsens , I’ve in included on of her portraits to show that these artist can paint other subjects, lot’s available on her website.

Strawson's very good.  I think her work would look so much better if she put a digital frame on the images. Looking at her website,  it's interesting she often ignores the rule of thirds.

We do have some excellent botanical artist on POL , I can’t show you all unfortunately , I have selected four to start with and will add more throughout the week . Some great work there, Paul.  Nice to see Sylvia's pieces. It's a good idea to include some of POL's own artists.  I rarely have the time to go through the gallery, so to see a selection is good.

Wonderful selection of botanical art.  I was particularly amazed at Lewis’s selection from Kew.  As a student I worked in the restaurant at Kew during the umber holidays, but didn’t see any art!

Thanks for these, Paul.  Call me old fashioned but its great to see artists painting in the Dutch Golden age tradition. I looked up  Marion Dutton, she is a professional and teaches, so I will check out some of her sample tutorials of floral oil paintings. Lovely work. That's my subjects for the winter sorted!
