Welcome to this weekends bonus artist thread , my chosen artist this week is the son of and artist a watercolourist called James Everett Kassell.  James Everett Kassell 1915- 1977, was a British painter in oils who was born in Coventry where he continued to live , he studied at Coventry School of Art in 1928-1934 and 1945- 1952. Towards the end of his life he ran his own art school based at his home in Eastern Green also in Bell Green and Canley Community Centres in the 1950 and 1960s . I hope yiu find his work of interest and find more online .
Died far too soon - does anyone agree with me that his painting of Coventry Cathedral would have worked better without the figures?  I found them distracting from the grim, even tragic, image: but - I'm sure he knew best, it's too easy to say what someone else should have done when you probably couldn't have done better yourself..... much of course depends on the now unknowable things he wanted to say. In a way though - I'm glad he didn't feel the need to make an "artist's statement", which tutors now encourage all artists to make, however totally meaningless and even misleading.  The work should speak for itself - if you need words, write; if you don't, paint.  I grant that this might be a bit extreme, and in practice I've written at least as much as I've painted, and almost certainly much more: but then.... that's sort of what I did for a living .... coming to the point, I think it's a pity when artists are forced to add words to their images when they didn't have them in mind at the outset........ but you'll get that or you won't, so I'll shut up and leave it with you.
Just bringing this back up .
His name was actually Kessell

Duplicates removed - they didn't break any rules, just a tidy-up.
Thanks Robert as you say nothing wrong, it does seem odd to comment on an old post and add what seems to be a painting that doesn’t appear to by by the same artist . No explanation about the painting , be interesting to see if anymore are added by the same person.
