Welcome to this weekends bonus artist thread , my choice of artist this weekend was suggested by Marjorie as it follow on from my last weeks choice . Tom McGuinness 1926 - 2006 , Was a British coal miner and artist at eighteen year of age he was conscripted as a Bevin boy in the Second World War, and later studied at Darlington School of Art. He was one of the artists at the Spennimoor Settlement, where his contemporaries were Norman Cornish, Herbert Dees and Robert Heslop.  I have selected a few of is painting and a sketch, there are many more online so feel free to choose and post any you particularly like .
I like the stylised figures of his pitmen….
Just as an aside…my husband was born in Salford. I came across the art of Tom Brown - this one by him links the subject matter we’re looking at. Amazing what you find when you delve into things.
You do come across some fantastic work when your researching for the thread , I discovered Steven Scholes yesterday when looking up McGunniss  Think we should have a week of nostalgic artworks, be interesting to see what’s posted . If you think it’s worthwhile I will ad it to the next list update .
