PETER ADDERLEY, born 1965, is a contemporary British artist known for his whimsical Naïve style paintings depicting rural and coastal scenes.  He grew up in Staffordshire and studied at the polytechnic there before earning his degree at Wolverhampton Polytechnic.  After graduating he freelanced as an artist and card designer, but in 1990 decided to concentrate full-time on painting as a professional artist. Now based in North Devon, he works from his home studios overlooking the harbour town of Ilfracombe, and finds living near the sea a great source of inspiration for his work.  He has two studios because he likes to separate his thinking/developing space from his painting space.  “Space for thinking is very important, it’s where I get my best ideas.” He paints on board and often starts his painting process with enamels which he likes, especially for painting the sea, as they have an unpredictability about them.  Once these are cured the painting process is finished with heavy body acrylics.  His paintings are sold in various galleries, and many of them are reproduced as greetings cards.

Thanks for the introduction Jenny , some nice work in your selection, I shall have a look and see what I can find .
I love Peter Adderley, especially his dogs. Also the way he paints his trees. I've always liked his attention to detail even in such simplistic paintings. A fab choice Jenny.
Here's a favourite
Wow, this is just the thing I like.  Colourful good humoured whimsy, totally dependent on his imagination.  I’ll have to look him up.
I like the way he paints his cats and dogs.  A series of rectangles and ovals...I suppose if you start to draw these animals realistically that's how you start.  But he leaves it there.  Great. How to draw ships...
A good choice Jenny- they brightened up my Monday. The seaside ones made me smile!
Sorry posted twice and don’t know how to delete!

Painted with great humour (which I love), skill and thoughtfulness, his work is actually very clever when you look carefully.  I especially like the one of the lady with boy and dog looking at a poster of themselves at the seaside, and the dog artist!  Will look him up later. Thanks Jenny.
I recall the first time I saw his art.  It was at the Range, I was there to buy Cotman's watercolour at the time.  They had one of his prints there.  I was very taken with it, had it not been such a large print I might have bought it.  Then I forgot his name.  Good to see his work again.
