Welcome to this weekends bonus thread , I start with an apology, I’m having problems typing due ongoing issues with my right hand , it’s taking me seven minutes to type this out . I have taken the liberty of copying the artist’s details directly from his website, I hope both you and he will forgive my doing so .
Peter Davidson aka Deetz.

Apologies for these two having the artists watermark, but they do illustrate a point. My initial response to Paul's postings was to be quite interested, perhaps caught by the juxtaposition of the grim background to the bright colours of the subjects (or is he just overworking the iconic theme of the girl in the red coat from Schindler's List?). I noticed on his web site, he had a selection of paintings of Middlesbrough, my old home town so I couldn't resist a peek. I was disappointed mainly I think by distinct similarities between some of his different works (see below), a bit of an overworked theme to me. I think I was also disappointed about his focus on football, there is more to the town than that, although if you did a Google search for Middlesbrough it would be difficult to believe. His drawings, however, are superb.

I do find his street scenes a bit grim, but it was like that when I was growing up in London after the war, and the streets were very much our playgrounds.
Here's one I like, chiefly for it's cheerful colour, and slightly odd-ball treatment...
And another...
I like his caricature treatment of these kids...

I’m not surprised at the mixed reaction to his work , I’m in the don’t know category.
Marjorie mentioned Norman Cornish for a comparison, I had a look as it’s quite a while since I last looked at Cornish , I prefer his style but add that I’ve not really decided what I think about Davidson work as yet, thoughts in progress.
Can’t deny his drawing skills I will look for more.

I’d have to agree with Peter, they really don’t appeal to me either, and I find his black and white street scenes with figures added in colour quite depressing!
Marjorie mentioned Norman Cornish , one of my favourite artists, and there is no comparison apart from some of their subject matter.
