,It’s with sadness that I introduce this weeks artist Ruth Dolan as over the past two years we became good friends. I was originally introduced to her by Sylvia and exchanged messages everyday sometimes thread or four time depending on what she had to say . Ruth was a gentle soul and a very tough old bird , she would laugh at that as it’s something I said to her a few time . She had a tough life from bath as she suffered from Spina Bifida and other related problems, but love life and became a teacher . Ruth was born on a farm in Lancashire lived in Canada and settle down in her beloved Wales , she was often out and about walking  the local area until several years ago when she was hit by a HGV lorry that was lost in the country lanes . Despite this she continued to be very possessive about life despite her health deteriorating and it wasn’t until early this year when her easer sister Shiela died that Ruth lost interest in living. She continued to paint and draw until a few weeks before her death , Ruth contacted Covid and this had an effect on her poor health resulting in kidney failure.  Ruth said to me a few months ago “ Out Sheila’s gone and I’m going soon to be with her and mum and dad , I’m not frightened it’s what happens to us all “ Goodby sweet lady and I hope your with your loved ones painting and drawing the same a before . I will miss you you old rat bag .  RIP Ruth Dolan 1932-2024.

Your opening tribute to Ruth is a tender and emotional read, Dixie. Your last sentence moved me to tears, only a true friend can get away with such words. Beautiful. The paintings you have posted are a credit to her memory. R.I.P Ruth. P.O.L has lost a very talented artist and friend.
She wasn't an artist I had been aware of, but that was probably because, as I have discovered, she had quite a range of styles, as can be seen below.  I probably never realised they were by the same hand.  I had chosen two, one because of the drama and the other because it made me smile.   Then I discovered that one that I had chosen was by a different Ruth (even thought I searched the gallery for Ruth Dolan).  I hope it is some kind of tribute that it was so easy to believe it was within her range of styles.  Instead I have chosen a landscape.  Tis a pity we shall see no more.

I wasn't aware of the range of Ruth's work - I've been on POL for as long as many and longer than most, but I remember only one of the above paintings: and that's not because they weren't memorable, I think she certainly didn't show everything she painted.  What a revelation - she will be much missed; 92 was a great age, but there are some people you really wish would go on forever (and some you don't, but let me  not introduce a note of sour....).
what lovely thoughts are being expressed here , thanks for doing this Paul. We never met though we didn’t live too far from one another…both of us Lancastrians with a love for this bit of Wales and painting.   I always enjoyed Ruth’s art and her daffy humour….we once had a conversation about Woolly Knickers….dont ask ! I don’t remember why.   I will certainly both miss her paintings and her humour…Bless  Ruth  .🌹.

I’ve always really liked Ruth’s quirky, colourful work, and even though she hasn’t posted much recently, will miss seeing it.
What wonderful and varied work from this lady.   I regret I don't recall her from my time in POL, it sounds like there was a gap in her art postings, I may have joined during that.  Having looked at her gallery I'm very impressed with the range of her work.  I particularly liked her 'quirkies'...her name for the more fun-filled images.

Very difficult to choose a favourite but one thing I noticed, she loved the world around her, so many of her subjects were of the natural world. RIP Ruth
Thank you all for your lovely words, Ruth would be very pleased or to use an old fashioned saying , Tickled Pink , we joked about that a few weeks ago . I have selected a few more to add , what inspired me about Ruth was her sense of humour, and her love of nature she adored every flower and cloud and was so calm . I know she always has pencils and paper with her whenever she was out and about ,  as she said growing up on a arm in the 1930/40s I notice thing as there was not distraction from tv etc . “ A pencil and paper and we were happy “ Ruth used her art as for relaxing and keeping her mind active and I only hope if I get to 92 I can still hold a pencil let alone draw or colour my drawings .  The last one is my favourite.
She had a really nice style and her gallery is well worth a visit. I hope we don't lose it.  I found this one I liked:

I particularly like the leaves, birds and fruit.  I must try to do selections of what I see, rather than attempting a whole landscape.  I can learn a lot from her work. It's a legacy.
A touching tribute to Ruth Paul. Her gallery is certainly worth a visit. Her paintings of nature are some of my favourites.
