Welcome to this weeks thread , apologies for running late had internet issues and count post the artist I had planned.  I have used a artist who’s work I particularly like but given he is a marine artist thats no surprise , this weeks bonus artist is : Edward D Walker 1937 to 2017.  Is descended from a long line of seafarers dating back to 1617 including captains and shipowners. Born in Hull Yorkshire he studied at Liverpool College of Art 1950 to 53 and settled in Lydiate Merseyside. I hope you enjoyed my selection of his artwork.

Can't say I am a fan of marine art but I was intrigued.  Dixie's first post looks like something out of the 19th century, yet he is a 20th century artist.  A little bit of research (hindered by Edward Higgins 'Ned' Walker and Edward Rusty Walker) shows that he does seem to favour historic ships.  Sadly, most of his work did not inspire me, but I rather liked this one, 'Shackleton's Endurance trapped in the Ice'.  I thought it had overtones of Caspar David Friedrich.

I had the same problem with the other two artists , very confusing but thought there was to much difference in the styles etc.
With Sarah, Phil, Ellen, Rose the dentist, and the granddaughter whose name I forget.

Love the one with the Liver buildings in the background….looks like one of the Tall ships races.  Nice.

I tend to like maritime art.  I admire all of Dixie's selection save for the very first one, as Robert says it's in urgent need of some TLC.  I find the treatment of the sails in this painting a little heavy handed (you may not agree).  I particularly like the Liverpool/Tall Ships painting, with it's predominately blue saturation.

Certainly a fine artist. If I had to choose one or two, they would be Dixie’s second and the Endurance.

I particularly like the third painting it gives a slight feeling of the vastness of the open water, and a hint of hope with the land in sight. However, looking at the sails it could be leaving for distant shores which could be quite exciting, also. Well spotted, Sylvia. You obviously look at more than the main subject painted.
