I don’t try to emulate or paint like anyone I do it my way right or wrong all mistakes are my own . There are artists who’s style and work I admire and do use a few of their ideas but always with my own mark on it. There is no one I would say that I really want to paint like that , but I suppose over the years we use and add bits of other artist to our style without realising it. Looking at other artist work and there are a couple on this site , does  sometimes bring on a feeling of oh if I was as good as that or if only but it soon passes and I’m back to plodding on content with my lot well most of the time.  A couple more landscapes from Harry Bush.
I agree that we should stay true to our own style and not copy or try to emulate that of others.  I do, though, think I understand Russell’s comment about this thread.  Because we’ve chosen to highlight the best work of some of the very best artists, it’s understandable if we feel own work lacks quality in comparison.  (I did notice, though, when looking through the work of the various artists that some did also produce more mediocre work, but we’ve chosen to ignore that!)

Your right Jenny a lot of the artists featured have some mediocre work . I suspect there would be a lot more if we looked deep enough and lot have never being made public as well I bet . I do understand what Russell is saying , its like going to a art exhibition you come away stimulated, enthusiastic and have that little bit of doubt about your own abilities. But why should we feel that way, we are all individual and do things differently, fortunately as it would be very boring if we all did the same thing the same way. To me art is about things  been different and seen differently through different peoples eyes,  so when it’s painted it should look different.
I am just so enjoying this thread I don't  always comment  but always look .   I think a lot of artists look at others work and can be overwhelmed by others skill  and  think I can never do that.  I have learned to still enjoy others  work but just enjoy doing my own thing.    Looking back at my own old stuff I think I have grown....and some old stuff think oh wow did I do that...though I'm still only 5 foot one inch.   This guy Harry Bush I'm not sure about  though the landscape with white cattle I like very much also the domestic kitchen  it's full of memories.   Keep going Paul.  You are a star .
