Welcome to this weekends bonus artist thread , the first one this year and hopefully more to come . I really pleased to be able to introduce you to a superb watercolorist Dongfeng Li , who is a professional artist and Associate Professor of Fine Art at Morehead University where he teaches drawing , painting and watercolour. Li has two graduate degrees Master of Art Education and Master of Fine Art. I hope you enjoy his work as much as I have since I noticed his artwork whist researching for the thread.

What a great artist. I admire them all, the old bearded man in particular. I'd be amazed if the third one down is watercolour, it looks like oils...but it may well be watercolour, some astonishing work is done in this medium. They are all fine, but the final pic with the yellow parasols is also a standout.

I wasn't saying the painting WAS oils, but that at first glance you could assume it it was. The variety of work made in watercolour often astonishes me. I have a book on the best watercolour art of the last 20 years with numerous examples of the medium used with body colour. If you have the immense skill of this artist you can do just what you want with it.
Another great find.

I was unsure if it was oil and posted it because it looked different, I was a bit confused as there was no mention of his using oil paint . No matter what he used it’s a superb portrait and his work is without doubt some of the finest watercolours I have ever seen . A while back a Chinese artist was featured and I made a comment about how good his work was , Robert made a comment that the Chinese were way ahead of other countries using watercolour paint as they have used it for centuries.
As it’s a medium that is taught in Chinese schools etc I’d do think it has a influence on how well they paint as a nation of course not everyone will paint or be a superb watercolorist.
