It’s Sylvia Wishart Paul! I will do an introduction tomorrow!!
It must have a changed as I did put the correct name , have changed it again.
Sylvia Wishart was born in Stromness, Orkney and attended Graysschool of Art. She went on to lecture there before returning to Orkney to Paint and teach.  She was a life long friend of George MacKay Brown Orcadian author and poet. I find her drawings are very interesting they are beautifully presented . Her paintings are on the other hand are abstract in nature. I am not a big fan of abstract painting but I love the way she uses colour. I recognise the Orkney landscapes in them and can almost ‘feel the wind on my face and smell of sea. I hope you enjoy discovering her!
Thank for the introduction Gillian, she certainly captures the wild side of the Orkneys. I do particularly like her drawing and had selected a few earlier today.
Super drawings Gillian, and yes I do like her abstract paintings, capturing the feel of the great outdoors. I love The Harbour Window especially- very simple but striking.
Gillian, I also particularly like her drawings.  I also like the first painting you’ve posted, Ruined Croft - the colours are lovely, it looks like pastel, although I believe she often worked in mixed media?

She certainly had a thing about windows Tessa. She loved Rackwick in Hoy and she had a cottage there where she painted her surroundings. Paul the top one of your choice is Rackwick bay one of my favourite places! The second drawing is two minutes from my house here in Stromness and I have sketched it a few times but not to Sylvia’s quaulity!,
Jenny the ruined Croft is oil on canvas! Such a delicate oil painting! She did use mixed media at times and also coloured crayons! Below Eynhallow crayon on paper

That’s surprising, it’s so delicately done and does look like pastel, or at least mixed media.

I haven’t come across any pastel work Jenny . She certainly created some very delicate paintings using oil on canvas. But I really am inspired by her superb drawings. I recently purchased two books of her work at the Pier Art Centre here in Stromness she was one of the founders of the Gallery
Gillian, I read an article on her work and it said she used pastel as part of her mixed media paintings which is probably what made me think it was pastel - such soft colours.
