Welcome to week 47 the two featuring artists this week are : Shirley Trevena and Edward Hersay.  Jenny will start the week with her introduction to Shirley Trevena and a choice of her paintings . On Wednesday I will introduce Edward Hersay along with a selection of his paintings . Have a good week , hope you all keep well and safe .
I don't know Edward's work, but Shirley Trevena is a wonderful painter: looking forward to this!
Born in London in 1940 to a theatrical family, Shirley Trevena is a watercolour artist best known for her innovative style and vibrant use of colour.  Throughout her career she has pushed the boundaries of watercolour and is now regarded as one of Britain’s most experimental artists in the medium.   She maintains that you get the best results if you have no sense of fear and just let yourself enjoy watercolour’s fascinating versatility. After working in local government for many years she finally resigned from her planning job 25 years ago to become a full time artist.  She enjoys working with watercolour and mixed media, her subject matter mainly still life, but has occasionally branched out into abstract landscape, monoprinting and pen and ink work.  (Abstract landscapes are the subject of an article on her work in the latest issue of The Artist.) She is a council member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour, has published four best-selling books on her painting techniques, and regularly runs popular painting workshops in the UK and Italy.

I have a large print of hers. I always think her style is “ facetted”, with different planes. Noticeable more in some , not all.
Thanks for the excellent introduction Jenny and your selection of her superb artwork.
Lovely choice Jenny. I do like her flower paintings especially and I see what you mean about facets Marjorie. She has quite a distinctive style.
There’s an interesting piece written by Shirley in March’s Artist just been reading it! Nice choice Jenny
Once again another amazing demonstration of the versatility of watercolour.  Still life and flower painting aren't subjects I consider for myself, but seeing Shirley's wonderful work leaves me full of admiration.  I like her advice to have no fear and let yourself go.  A brilliant artist.
I’m still surprised at how watercolour is used in so many different ways though I know how versatile it is . There is a lot of fear about using watercolour and yes it can be difficult , but it also makes some superb images of let free to do so.  Lots of superb paintings these I have chosen as I prefer landscapes . Who can’t resist poppies.
Stunning watercolours, what a great artist. Love her work. I've not come across her before. Great find Jenny.
I expect you WILL look Trevena up online anyway, but if in any doubt, do: she made some filmed demos - I had one, until the videotape self-destructed (as the damn' things always did) - which are very much worth watching.
Yes, I will definitely look them up. Her work is vibrant.
