Welcome to week 32 of Inspiration from Artists in this very historic week the two artists featured are Jonathan Yeo and Roger Dean. I’m looking forward to seeing their work as I was not aware of either artist , Jenny will start of with her introduction to Jonathan Yeo and on Wednesday Andrew will introduce Roger Dean . I hope you all enjoy the artwork and have a good week
Jonathan Yeo is a self-taught British artist who rose to international fame in his early 20s as an innovative contemporary portraitist.  He is renowned for his distinctive, highly figurative canvases and striking collages employing a range of media and techniques, although he mainly uses oils. He is best known for his often provocative portraits of politicians and figures from popular culture.  In 2013 he was the subject of a retrospective at The National Portrait Gallery in London.  I like his portraits for their distinctive and rather offbeat mix of realism combined with abstract or semi-abstract.

Jonatthan Yeo is a great portraitist, which doesn't mean I always enjoy his work.  In these, I just think they're not finished.  But then, that's me.
A very talented artist , I find myself looking at his work and wondering what it will be like when it’s finished. I guess like Robert I think it’s not complete but then he is new to me and I think it will grow on me. The bits that I see as finished , are really good and beautifully painted, I will have a in-depth look at his painting and select some I like .
Two which have a more ‘finished’ look to them.
I found a Lucien Freud homage by Yeo that I really like. Of the ones above, the Grayson Perry is my favourite.
What an interesting and excellent choice Jenny. I’m not sure I was aware of Yeo but some of his portraits do look familiar. He seems to have two styles, one being almost photo realistic fir the face, but then having that ‘unfinished’ look of the background. Then his what I think of as ‘slabby’ style, as with the Duke of Edinburgh above. The light on his forehead and nose-terrific! I like both styles but they are certainly different. I’ve chosen a few I like.
His work is excellent and he is extremely skilled I struggle a little bit with it as I can’t get around it not looking finished . I have found some I particularly like and some that are different.
It is the first time I have come across him and I have to say, I love his work. The painting that don't look complete, I really like this style of painting, it leaves so much for the imagination. His work is very impressive. Cara1 Goggles. Paul Boateng. Ned.
Ooo, I love this guys work. (Not seen it before). It’s like he does nice scratchy surfaces to paint on, then does the face and hands of someone, and then thinks ‘that’s enough now’. Like it a lot. Looking forward to Roger Dean, being a big Yes fan!
I've admired Jonathan Yeo's work for years, a superb portraitist. I often find his 'unfinished' pieces somewhat frustrating but perhaps it's an example of the adage, 'always leave them wanting more.'
An interesting artist.  The unfinished aspect is odd, especially when the grid lines he's used are so prominent.  They all look like work in progress.  I guess it's a way of looking different...maybe...maybe not.   Despite all this I find his work admirable.
