So many artists out there - when people ask us to identify a work, I wonder if they have any idea of the immensity of the task.
Anyway, here's an interesting read from the Guardian: another forgotten painter/artist, and this time one who never even tried to sell his work.

Interesting Robert I added him to the list a couple of weeks ago having suddenly come across his work. I was thinking of using him for this week’s bonus artist but change my mind , as you have mentioned him would you like to do the introduction. I think your right that people don’t realise just how many past and present artists there are and the volume of paintings out there. I don’t think I could even begin to estimate the quantity and the amount that are actually good paintings . I

What were the son's dates, Paul? I can't see that you've included them, though with my eyesight...... Only he seems curiously old-fashioned, more so than his father; the beach scene is attractive, but is that foxing, or mould? Not doing the painting any favours (the second, bigger beach scene, I mean). Did the son not quite measure up to his dad, do we think?
I like the first of Junior's paintings, not so smitten with some of the others; and of the father's, love that one of the lock, with the church behind - well judged palette, nicely drawn and composed.
Oh, and in reply - I'll be happy to introduce the Rev. Mr Petit, just tell me when you want me to do it.

Sorry Robert just noticed your question, Gendening Jr 1861 - 1907 . He obviously covered the Victorian romantic painting period could explain his style and choice of subjects. I think the farther is the better of the two but then he lived longer and had more experience. If I had to pick one from the two them I would without doubt have one of Gendening Snr paintings .
Thanks for doing Rev Petite it will be quite a while but I will let you know in time .
