Welcome to week 28 bonus Artist this weekends Artist is Joan Eardley 1921 -1963.  Joan was born in Kent and became known for her portraiture of street children in Glasgow and her landscape paintings of the fishing  village of Catterlinne . She is on of Scotlands enduringly popular artists , sadly her career was cut short by breast cancer.  I hope you enjoy her work .
I love her work Paul, I'm familiar with it. I think it was Marjorie who first mentioned her to me, I could look at her work all day. I'll find some to post later.
Another good choice Dixie! There is a fascinating article about her on the BBC Arts website from May 2017. It mentions that she developed a friendship with a family who had twelve children so plenty of painting inspiration there!
I do remember looking at her work recently, I think it was after she was mentioned in another thread a while ago.  Some of her paintings of street children are quite moving, although I’m not too keen on her painting style in general.

Who knows where she might have gone had she lived a longer life - this dreadful disease has robbed the world of so much. I'm drawn more to her drawings than to her paintings, not least because she very consciously drew with the brush - which is fine, the two activities are hardly distinguishable, and yet..... I look for a difference, which is the best way I can find (ie, the only way) of expressing it.   It also might help if I were fonder of paintings of children..... She was clearly still developing as an artist; it's just a tragedy that she was prevented from reaching her full potential.
What fab pics of the children.....lovely work.
I like her artwork I find that I need to look at her landscape and seascapes for a while before I’m able to see clearly what she has actually done. Some more of her work before we move on this evening to next weeks artists.
