I think Cuneo is very talented. I particularly like his New Yorker magazine covers. I think he is what I call political cartoonist and will always offend someone somewhere, whether the subject be sex or politics. Bottom line is he is a great draughtsman. America seems to have a large share of the great political artists. Robert Crumb is another great, he upset lots of people as well, but some amazing pen and ink characatures. They all seem to have dome more controversial pictures, but maybe that's what being a cartoonist in this genre is about. I'm not keen on Cuneos darker and sexual drawings, I'm not offended, just don't particularly like them. Good choice though to follow the Barker illustrations.

I’m glad you posted him Paul. I think he’s brilliant. He does produce a lot of stuff that’s a little gruesome, either brutal or saucy. That’s why I didn’t suggest him. It doesn’t offend me, and there are plenty other similar satirical cartoonists like him…Gerald Scarfe being one. I admire his work very much, but feel leaving out the ‘strong’ stuff doesn’t do the artist justice and is a form of censorship. So I don’t suggest such artists.
Luckily this artist has produced such a wealth of material, that it’s easy to be picky.
Some hit the spot for me…like the one with the caption’Oh ink, thou are the cruellest mistress.’

I enjoyed this cartoonist and like you Lewis not offended by his works that have been left out. However I do feel a little uncomfortable with as you said his gruesome pictures eg there's one of a chap sawing his arm off. However it's strange really what offends. When I lived in Brighton I belonged to the Friends of the Royal Pavilion, and there were cartoons in there by James Gillray I think which could be extremely rude. History makes it OK and people less offended. I think the cartoonist throughout history has offended at the current time of the cartoon. Artists like Crumb upset everyone when Fritz the Cat came out, now seen with endearment. Like seaside postcards of the 1950s, pretty harmless really. But everyone is different, I find violence far more offensive than a few saucy pictures. Sorry, blabbing on. It was great to see his work.
