Welcome to week fifteen bonus artist Noel Laura Nisbet 1887-1956. She is the daughter of the painter and writer Hume Nisbet and was married to Harry Bush who we featured last week . Describe as a artist and illustrator her work is often highly decorative. A artist I only became familiar with when researching for  the thread I have picked out a few paintings at random and included tsp of her self portraits. Hope you enjoy the artwork and have some good weekend, sorry for posting it earlier than usual, I have family commitments today and wants to get in up on line. The first two are her self portraits .
I  had seen some of her fairy illustrations in the past ( not knowing anything about her). They are very much of the arts and craft period and wild flights of fancy! Wish I had a quarter of her imagination! Can’t say that they are my sort of think BUT they are really good. But I have to say I am very impressed with the first self portrait you posted Paul the expression captured is really pensive. She looks quite sad.
Another new one to me... that poor laddie looks quite horrified to being propositioned . The last two are almost medieval in both content and style .
I think I'll pass on those - there's a faint echo of Frank Brangwyn there, whose work Sylvia probably knows; but I think he did it better.  Still - just an immediate reaction, and in fairness I don't know anything about any other work she accomplished.  I hope most of it was better than the third one down, which looks as if it was modelled from shop mannequins.
Agree with Sylvia about the rather medieval look to a lot of her work.  Did find this one, though, which I like.

I much prefer the fresh 'naturalness' of the first self portrait in Dixie's selection.  Some of the other look too formal, stilted almost.  Though in all truth, I would be quite pleased if I could do half as well myself.
I do really like the first self portrait, it is really beautiful. It appears to have much emotion attached, you sense it, when looking at it.

The painting of those trees - birches? - is wonderful.
An interesting artist.  I admire the portrait and the landscape, but am underwhelmed by the others.  Odd in a way, they are fantasy/mythology pieces, a genre I like.  Can't pin it down...stilted?...inexpressive?...don't know.  They don't work for me.  The images are too dark, maybe that's just because the photographic reproduction isn't good.  There are some awful repro's on the net, maybe the actual paintings are more engaging.
I think, Lew, that they're too crowded, and too tonally similar - I like red, but less so when it hits me like a wall of paint.  You're right about awful repro's on the net, though: we can only judge what we can see, of course, but sometimes what we can see bears precious little resemblance to the actual work.  Any of us who have tried photographing our own paintings - especially the smaller ones, I find - will be aware of the problems in getting an accurate, or at times even close, reproduction of them.
I’ve had another look at her work, and was just about to say the same thing - most of her paintings are very ‘busy’ and quite hard to look at especially, as Robert says, when red is the dominant colour.  There aren’t any quiet areas to give your eyes a rest.

I do agree there is to much happening in the paintings and the overwhelming red is to much .  As it been a weeking focusing on the Royal Family I thought that if HRH Tod Prince of Wales can pop up in Eastenders he could do so here as a extra guest bonus artist . HRH Prince Charles is quite an accomplished artist particularly in watercolour, I have selected four of his painting at random , hope you enjoy them, hopefully I won’t get sent to the tower . .
