Imitation is the highest form of flattery  as they say Helen,  and that is an immediately recognizable Groucho, Robert.  Last one for Thursday from me. "Death Walks Behind You" by Atomic Rooster introduced me to the work of William Blake. It is a colour monotype entitled Nebuchadnezzar.  When I saw it I couldn't believe it had been painted in the 1880's as it looked so modern. I had no idea it was a well known picture.
Used in this context, the Blake painting seems very 'modern'.  I recall many albums using fine art paintings for their cover art, especially the music classics. In the 70s/80s, the artist Drew Struzan bucked the trend towards photography with his paintings.  He's mostly known for his many movie posters (the Indiana Jones movies, for example), but, on occasion, he did Album Covers.  Here's a slightly decorous cover for the outrageous Alice Cooper... A few more... One for 'Iron Butterfly'... One for Black Sabbath.... Album Art seems to incorporate all types of art, here's an abstract from the 1950's...don't know the artist...

There’s are some excellent pieces of artwork chosen. I personally can’t contribute due to living a nomadic life in the 60/70s I had few personal possessions not a lot of room in Yer Kit bag when it full of boots and uniforms etc.  A lot of the music I listened to was on the BBC Forces Favourites not alway the latest stuff so when we came home I was often a year or more behind the trend .
Being a huge music fan I had a big collection of albums at one time. Some of the singers I like were also painters so I have chosen two of those. Cat Stevens, Teaser and the Firecat and Joni Mitchell, Both sides now.
Next week’s featured artists will be Phil Greenwood (Jenny) and Billy Showell (Paul.)
