Born in New York, Mary Abbott (1921-2019) (wiki) was a member of the abstract expressionist movement, working with key artists of the period including Willem de Kooning, Robert Motherwell and William Baziotes. She was also a fashion model in her youth, appearing in the likes of Vogue. I first came across her colourful striking work at the Action, Gesture, Paint exhibition of female abstract painters at the Whitechapel Gallery last year. Her work is said to be inspired by time spent in the Caribbean, esp. Haiti. I've mainly chosen her more abstract pieces but she also produced recognisable flower/plant paintings that some here might prefer.

I rather like her use of colour. The fact that many of her works are untitled gives her viewers freedom to use their imagination to decide what it reminds them of, or what they see in it. I’m not usually a fan of abstract in general (is there such a thing!?) but I do like these.
Thanks Martin for the intro. I will also look more later in he day.

Not keen on her work generally, but do like the last one Martin posted, All Green. Out of interest, the one Tony posted is the same as one of the untitled images Martin had already shown, but the colours look so much brighter, it almost looks like a different painting at first glance - surprising how much colour variation there often is in different reproductions of the same painting.
