I watched a TV programme about this artist a few years ago, it very much concentrated on the nudes. Whilst I recognise her obvious skills as an artist I dislike the style. The works are certainly not bland and scream look at me! However there seems to me there is another aspect to her nudes and that is all about how society views body image! I really don’t like the almost brutal way they are painted as it takes away the beauty of the human form regardless of size or shape! Certainly wouldn’t want her to paint me!

I agree with both Tessa and Gillian I would not have one on my wall . I did think quite hard about featuring her artwork as I though some people may be offended by it , I decided to go ahead because we are looking at artists and their work no matter if we like it or not . Out of interest I would like to see some comments from more of men. I don’t have a problem with nude painting or not that I see many photos ,for me her work is a little disrespectful and undignified . I do agree that we should represent both male and females in the many shapes and sizes that we come in , not just the so called hour glass or masculine figures but with a bit more dignity . Well that’s art I suppose for you it’s always has been controversial at times, one persons are etc .

I have to admit that I find her work fascinating. I do like her use of lurid colours and how she paints flesh generally. Her nudes can never be described as Rubenesque that's for sure! I admire her 'warts and all' approach to the human form and the 'this is me, like it or lump it' attitude that exudes from her portraits. Her work reminds me of Lucian Freud.

I agree Russell, that her work reminds me of Freud. I couldn’t think of his name earlier, but there is definitely a similarity of subject and style. It’s interesting that both their work sells for stupid amounts so obviously someone likes it. Sometimes reality is ugly, or at least not pretty, and I think art does well to show that.
I wonder if anyone on this site will admit to liking her work!?

Im not surprised at peoples reactions to her work , like some artists who produce unusual artwork her work is rated very high by a lot of the so called experts.
It’s definitely down to taste I wonder if any of them have her artwork on their walls , they certainly have a high price tag .
Next weeks artist are Henry Tonks and Fred Masters I will open the thread on Sunday evening , the bonus artist will be on line this evening . Over the next week or so the artist featured are mainly from Jenny and myself, I would welcome some more names for the list as I’m sure you don’t want to be overrun with my choices.
