Welcome to this weekend’s bonus artist :Sir George Clausen 1852-1944 was a British artist working in oils , watercolour, etchings, mezzotint, dry point and occasional lithography. He was knighted in 1927 and became one of the foremost modern landscape painters and painter of peasant life.  The first two are of young boy scaring birds from  crops.

I had that one on the list to post Marjorie but thought I had enough, it’s absolutely brilliant.
“The Stone Pickers”, in the Laing Art Gallery, close by. One of our favourite paintings.
The expression on the young woman’s face literally says a thousand words never mind her posture . I would love to see in for real how lucky you are Marjorie.
Two more you might like, the second one a watercolour which might interest you Paul.
Great choice, Paul.  Hadn’t seen his work before.  I especially like his portraits.

The Stone Pickers, the lady by the gate and the portrait Jenny has posted must be the same model, just gorgeous paintings.
I do like his portraits and general figure work. He seems to capture a look of emotion and warmth that is lacking in much work of this type of subject and era. I especially like the man with his bucket which I think has a touch of Van Goch, and the two boys bird scaring.
Marvelous work.  It conveys some idea of the hard life these peasants had.  His work reminds me of Millet's art, who used a similar subject matter.  Nice to see the sketch and drawing.
Were you thinking of The Gleaners by Millet, Lewis?
Sorry to divert you all from the artwork for a moment, on the 26 February I will be posting Week 52 of this thread and wondered if we should mark it in some way . My thoughts were to have it as a open thread enabling anyone to post a painting done by a artist that was new to them since we started . Artists who have  surprised you with their work or you just did not know about them . It’s entirely up to you guys what we do it’s your thread , alternatively we can continue as normal, I was wanting to know before I make any changes to the list . Normal service will now resume thank you for watching the advertisement.
