Following the sad new that Alwyn Crawshaw passed away this week I felt it was appropriate to have a special feature showing some of his work . It was looking at his books that started my interest in painting particularly watercolour, my initial attempts were copying his work and following some of the step by step instructions in his excellent books . Like everyone as I developed I move on to other artist but never lost my interest in his beautiful landscapes and maritime paintings, to say I owe him a debt of gratitude would be an understatement.
We did feature Alwyn quite some time ago, I concentrated on his watercolour as my knowledge of acrylics etc is very basic , I know he was a member of NAPA and I hope if Robert is looking in he will join in show sone of his acrylic work .
His ability to paint in watercolour is amazing he makes it look so easy , and had a way of putting what he was doing with easy steps to follow, some of the washes he achieved are so delicate but look robust at the same time .
My favourite subjects are landscape with trees and horses , I also love boats of all kinds , if I’m honest with myself I do believe it’s because I copied so many of his in the beginning.
My thought go out to his family who themselves are first rate artists.
Finally thanks Alwyn for the enthusiastic way you taught so many of us and generated so much enthusiasm for the subject, Rest In Peace.

I'll certainly look out some of his acrylics. I've been a bit busy this week, but will seek 'em out. It was his enthusiasm I remember -in one of his videos he's applying acrylics with water (one of the reasons I normally use acrylic with no medium other than water) and his delight in the way it flowed onto the paper or canvas was so obvious, and so communicable. He painted in oil, too - and probably in every medium he could get his hands on. An all-round artist.
