Welcome to this week’s bonus artist : William Henry Hunt 1790 - 1864.  William Henry Hunt was one of the most distinctive and influential of the early Victorian watercolorists. The son of a tin- plate worker and jappaner, he grew up in the Covent Garden area of London. As a result of his deformed legs and stunted growth he was encouraged by his parents to pursue a career in art. At the age of 16 he was place with the artist John Varley .
I love this artist’s work with his country themes and depictions of life at the time, especially the old dilapidated buildings.  His watercolour skills are amazing.  He apparently was given the nickname ‘Bird’s Nest Hunt’ for his love of painting birds’ nests.

Great choice of paintings Jenny , I too love his work especially as it’s watercolours the skill in the paintings of those old buildings one of my favourite subjects. I would not have come across his work but for researching for the thread . I did have to stop myself from uploading many more of his paintings. Some of his sketches.

Fine work indeed, I particularly like the sketch of the top-hatted man and those astonishing bird's nest paintings.  His figure work is good.  Here's a few I like... His work is an historical archive.  As ever, the picturesque scenes belie the harsh lives these people lived.  But that's a given for this genre of painting.
Some fascinating work here, and I especially like the old farm buildings, love the one with the fence -Jenny’s second choice, also his flowers and fruit are excellent, plus his characters. Well that’s about everything yes!? The titles of my selection are Apples, portrait of man with beard, and The Water Carrier. I think maybe he lacked inspiration in choosing titles!
