A well known artist band I’m sure we’ll know to many POL member  , Ray Campbell- Smith 1916- 2016 .  Ray produce a lot of articles for Leisure Painter and was the author of many step by step guides to watercolour painting . I have known  his work for many years and used a couple of his excellent books when I first started painting. Ray who was born in London sadly died a few weeks before his hundredth  birthday. I have pick out several painting to reflect his work hope you enjoy viewing his excellent painting’s and find some to post . Have a good weekend and stay well and safe. Difficult to choose when there are so many I like.
Very dour on camera but promoted a style that is loose and 'uncomplicted' which inspired many an artist. I am among them (well him amongst several others) and have most of his books  although his video tapes are no longer watched - I don't have a video player in these days of modern technology.

I have never seen his videos you could have them transfers to CDs , but then it would only be for nostalgia as you certainly don’t need them for learning . I do like his books unfortunately I only have one left out of the three I had ,that’s the problem with lending them to done people. I liked his painting and his approach I found both him and Ron Ransom among other really good to follow and learn from. It’s odd that I’m now having to go back to less detailed work similar to how I painted when I first stared , more blocks of colours, its a bit like relearning and stepping into a pair of old shoes in many ways .
A lovely man, a lovely painter, and a great teacher. If his videos haven't been transferred to DVD, they should be!  I do still have a video recorder, but the tapes are suffering from what I believe is a version of wow and flutter...... poor Ray's vowels are getting longer and rounder and slower the more the tape ages....  I have one of his books, as well.
Lovely , lovely paintings.
I have two of his pictures - have owned for many, many years. Both give me pleasure every day. Can't work out why they've posted upside down?!

And the other one (I hope, if I've got this right).  When taking photos on an Ipad, which I presume you were, you have - apparently - to angle it the right way or use photo editing software.
This was a good reminder of the great Ray Campbell-Smith, whose work was instantly recognizable - particularly clever is the one up above of a farmland landscape, but his nautical scenes, with his favourite mixes of ultramarine, light red, or burnt sienna, applied wet in wet, were particularly typical and he painted a great many of them: but never TOO many.
