I like to have lots of ideas brewing.  Not finding it easy at the moment because we don't get out and about much these days.  I don't want to go into the reasons why, because everyone has problems.  In the past most of my ideas have come from things people do and say, or simply things I've seen.  Often with a slight twist, I can find something I want to draw. For example, in one of the forums Sylvia said 'I think I agree with myself'.  This made perfect sense within the context of that discussion, but the merest diversion MIGHT turn it into a surreal idea. I was looking for an old painting I did (thinking I might have another go), couldn't find it, so I looked through 'my art' in my POL account.  This set me wondering how long I've been at POL. I find it is exactly FIVE years to this VERY DAY that I first posted an image here...20th November, 2017.  This is the first drawing I posted.... It was commented on by Derek Snowdon, Adele Elgood and our Fiona.  It's had 457 views since then.  I also see that my 800+ pictures (mostly drawings) have been viewed 326,357 times.  My stuff is done for my own enjoyment.  Had I not joined POL maybe a couple of hundred people might have had a look over the past five years. So my 5th Anniversary with POL is a good time to thank all the people at POL for this great website and their magazines...and also the kind, generous and helpful people who use the site.
Lewis, I think we all feel the same about the site - it’s part of my life now. I can’t remember when I joined ( the images have been “ re dated” since various changes to the site) but it’s a long time. From time to time there have been “ spats” and hurt feelings but, overall, we have overcome them and have “ policed” ourselves. So, I’ll join you in big thanks for this site and all who are involved with it - staff ( brilliant) and members.👏
You have loitered with good intent Lew....I alway# enjoy your work.  Ames from the past Derek Snowden is no longer with us sadly he was very prolific and Adele commented kindly on almost everyone's work.  She just vanished.  I have a feeling I've been here longer than most...even Robert.  As Marjorie says it becomes part of your life . So here's to your Five year anniversary , and  it's   great to know you all.... Just discovered that you can't find ou5 how long you have been contributing as the info only goes back a few years .  The whole site had a makeover and that info seems to have vanished.

I can remember when you were Northlight Sylvia.
Gosh...
I’ve been with POL seven and a half years now - my first gallery upload was in July 2015.  (Sylvia, you should be able to tell by looking at the date of your first entry unless any of your gallery has been deleted - I can see you’ve got BLOGS going back to May 2009) and it’s become such a part of my daily routine that I find it hard to think back to a time without it.  Even though I belong to several art clubs, it was POL that kept me going with my art during the lockdowns, and all the feedback and encouragement I’ve had on the site has really helped in gaining confidence and moving my art forwards.  I’d also like to say a big thank you to Dawn and the POL team!

Thank you Jenny....still think irs longer than that even. Just been looking and found this copied and pasted here. Roberts Tale of Woe. There once was a fella called Jones Who came from an island called Wight He drank too much booze and became very tight . So He pressed with his finger  the tab on the right , and all of his paintings they just vanished from sight..
I just scrolled down to the last of the gallerys in 'my art', and found the earliest picture.  The date posted was given and it was still possible to view the post with its comments if any.  But then I'm a newbie compared to many on this site.
Yes Lewis, you’re just a whippersnapper😁
I posted my first painting effort in February 2011 and in February 2021, I challenged myself to post my thousandth painting in ten years.  I remember Sylvia and Robert definitely had been members for quite a while and I’m sure Marjorie, Michael Edwards, Mia, and  Seok were on the site when I first joined too. Having the interaction from artists on this site over the years has given me so much confidence in myself, their constant encouragement, and advice has been in valuable……a very BIG thank you to you all.
I just looked in my comments and see some from 2008 but, like Sylvia, I joined before then but I don’t think I’ll be able to find out.
Well I’m ancient but a newbie on POL I think I’m coming into my fourth year so still a sprog and wet behind the ears .  I do think using the site had done my confidence the world of good . Knowing that people like and take the trouble to comment on painting is such a boost , if I didn’t post paintings they would sit in a folder and go in the bin when I’ve given up on the world.  Certainly BIG Thanks to the team and all you kind folk ., Please keep it up.  And thank you for participating in the Inspiration from Artists  thread.
