Purely by chance I have come across a very interesting USA site that you may want to visit, There are a great many opinions, articles and pictures that I'm sure many of you will be happy to disagree with, argue with or point to as "Gobbledegook" or any of the other terms that instantly occur to some. http://www.powersofobservation.com/ However it is through this site I have come across a Massachusetts artist called Catherine Kehoe. She is a middle-aged painter that restores my belief in human excellence. Her colourful work which I think may be mostly in acrylic is an object lesson in the mastery of two dimensions. Composition is excellent and highly original, her colour combinations take your breath away. I know I seem to go on about this but do go and see if you are as blown away as I am, you don't have to rely purely on the URL I have supplied. All you have to do is Google the painter's name and you will see how versatile her work is. Portrait, still life or landscape all offer a different and original perspective in their own right. Her work has certainly inspired me greatly to try some of the approaches that offer a new way of looking at the subject, you might find the same. John
Always interested in links to other art sites, so thanks for that and I shall certainly take a look. Of course, I hope it's gobbledegook free................. I know there are some who see it everywhere, and actually strongly dislike having their perceptions and preconceptions challenged. The genuine article, though, which should be punished by time in the stocks and a quantity of rotting fruit, is marketing, ad-speak, PR. Nothing to do with the site to which you've linked, just a comment on the issue in general.
Thanks John will have a look at her work.
Have had a quick look (i am supposed to be ironing) So far it looks very interesting , certainly the way she has reduced a lot of her paintings to shaped planes of light and colour. Will go and look again when the ironing is finished. Oh yes also on t he same site I noticed a piece about Leonard Cohen...... David Perry I thought of you .
I too have only had a quick look, and what I have seen impresses and inspires me, a great style indeed. I will check it out in more depth later. Marjorie, I look as though I have been painting myself, covered in the stuff as per usual.
