Hi everyone. It has been a few years since I visited the site regularly. This was due to having to care for my Lady wife, who contracted Parkinson's Disease. Just prior to Christmas, things worsened, and Dementia started to take over too. Because of this difficulty, I was no longer able to care for Jean on my own. Sadly, Jean was admitted to a Nursing home, for full care, during the last week in December, (Let no Man put asunder?) Please don't think I am bellyaching, as I know I am by no means alone in my situation. I am learning how to cope alone after 55 years of happy marriage; I am a decent cook, and 12 years in the RN taught me how to look after myself, and keep a tidy house. However these things alone are not the key to dispelling loneliness. I see Jean every other day, but also I see her condition gradually deteriorating. So I am more than grateful to have my art, and my music to fall back on. So I am back, for as long as I am given, and painting again. On Wednesdays I go to my local art group, and on my return to that, I realised how much of my ability has withered away. (Use it or lose it, they say?) I hope to ease myself back into a regular painting habit, working in oils, watercolour and pastel and able to post more work. Thanks for listening folks. I hope to be fully operational, as it were, asap Regards John
Welcome back John and a big virtual hug. Your skills will all come tumbling back and help to sustain you. 😊
Best wishes to you John - yes skills do wither; I had to take around 3 months off, and it's been difficult getting going again - I fear I've lost something, but, like you, I'll get it back. If we did it before, we can do it again. You can't really think about much else when you're painting, so I'm sure all our advice would be to get stuck in.
Nice to see you John, even though I'm just a newbie here. Glad you have gone back to your class and are picking up your brushes again, it's so therapeutic. I look forward to seeing some of your work.
Welcome back! It's just like riding a bicycle. But I can't do that either!
Good to have you back in John.
Welcome back John, I am the newist nebwie - but it is lovely to have you here and I am excited to see your work as you get back in the swing of things.
Just adding my welcome to those above. I hope your art fills at least a bit of the gap in your life and look forward to seeing you in the gallery and on here.
Hi John. So sad to hear this but you have done the right thing in immersing yourself back into your painting. Hope to see lots of your work and see your comments on the Forum. And it really doesn't matter in the fact that you are rusty - all that will come back to you.
Welcome back John...
