I'm a (far too) occasional painter with a little more time to dedicate nowadays and having discovered this forum am finding it very motivating, especially the gallery and artists' bios/paintings thread. I've recently taken up acrylics and am mainly drawn towards expressive/abstract landscapes, inspired to a large extent by my love of being in mountainous places or on the western seaboard of Scotland.  My day job involves sound perception and perhaps as a consequence I'm fascinated by the perceptual aspects of art, especially related to colour. Artists I admire include Paul Klee (esp. his Tunisian period), Bridget Riley, Frank Auerbach and Howard Hodgkin. I'm looking forward to learning from you all! Martin

Hello Martin and welcome to the POL site I hope you enjoy joining in with the discussion on the forum as well as posting your paintings. It’s always good to have new people join in the discussion as it often bring  a different view point on the topics under discussion, you don’t need to be a expert or have a deal of knowledge just your view or opinion on things is all that’s often needed . I’m looking forward to seeing more of your artwork.

Welcome - I'm becoming a MUCH less occasional painter, having retired from my part time job in July: I've painted more in the last month, apart from the period of the heatwave - we are no longer young - than I've painted in years, and I wholeheartedly recommend it, retirement, that is.   Do join in, and ask for advice should you need it (which you might not, of course): we do have our complement of experts.  But plunge in, either way.

Ah, an abstract painter! Lovely to meet you. I hope you enjoy the community. From what I've seen around, there don't seem to be many threads about abstract art. Hopefully, you will start a few. We should really consider having some abstract artists in the Artistic Inspiration section.
