I am interested in how other people make use of instructional books and DVDs. Whenever I get a new one my first inclination is to start at the beginning and work through all the exercises and demonstrations. Given that I can't resist buying said books and DVDs, not to mention subscriptions to four art magazines, all packed with interesting demonstrations, etc, this is impossible.
There simply isn't enough time. So I have been reduced to reading and watching hungrily and trying out the occasional exercise. Which leads to a pretty eclectic style, to say the least. Maybe it's my obsessive-compulsive, nit-picking, academic background, but I don't find this particularly satisfying and long for a more structured approach.
Would be really interested to know if other people have a similar problem and, if so, how they resolve it
