Hi everyone, I hope someone can help with this. I have recently been attending local events and I've had numerous enquiries about giving people art lessons. I'd love to do this within the villages here in North Devon in my spare time, especially seeing as the village halls are only around £5 per hour for the hire of the room, kitchen for tea and biscuits included! :) Would you expect your painters to provide their own equipment, or would you make up a few sets with some purchases from SAA for them to buy? I realise that the material prices could be factored into the lesson costs, but this is a rural farming community where you wouldn't expect to pay much out front for events. Plus I would feel people may be put off by having to purchase art equipment (watercolours, palettes, brushes etc), for a hobby they may not enjoy. I will be looking at teaching three hour sessions but on a 'very' small scale to begin with and with the cost of £20 per lesson. The group size will firstly be 3 people so I can gain teaching confidence growing to no more than 6. I want to be able to spend more time with them than you would do with a larger group. Also how would you prepare work for them to do, would you do this yourself before hand in a series of stages for them to see, or would you paint in front of them while they watch and paint one section at a time? As you can tell it is all new to me so any advice would be more than welcome. Some of you may have seen my recent otter painting article in the Summer issue of the Leisure Painter magazine, so you will get a feel of the type of work I would teach. Thank you in advance, Paul :) http://www.devonartist.co.uk
