I admit to be a bit of a colour junkie and when I am let loose in an art shop with all those lovely tubes of paint, my bank balance takes a bit of a hit. I have been trying various makes of watercolour paint and so far have bought paints by Winsor & Newton, Sennelier, Holbein and Maimeri. What I have found is that the same colours vary enormously from make to make. Maimeri Burnt Umber is totally different from Winsor & Newton's. Holbein Coeruleum is, I think, a much nicer shade that the others. What do others favour and have you found similar differences in colours between makes? There are makes I haven't tried - can anyone recommend any and in particular, any shades that are particularly good in that brand.
