An embarrassment of riches Julie. I thought I had too many coloured pencils, but you leave me standing. In reality my ‘too many’ consists of remainders from an initial purchase of 48 Faber Castell solubles. They’ve become remainders, or survivors, because they are colours I don’t use. I’m still buying the colours I DO use, but in single pencils from Jackson’s.

I wouldn't have bought that many myself Paul. When I put a set of Tombow brush pens on my Xmas list a couple of years ago Vic bought me several big sets. Again to many colours, but I've replaced the greys from Jacksons. I buy open stock Prismacolor to replace. He did manage to just buy the new brushes i wanted and not 50. He means we'll. Been together for 50 years to late to re train him lol

Agree Julie, large sets are pointless to a degree, I’ve only used about two thirds of this set I won - so false economy if you are having to buy them!
But in fairness to the company, the colours are all useable… no rancid greens which have become a staple in most sets, irrespective of the medium!

Lynda, I have just read your blog. Very informative and highly interesting. I have done a few painting in the paints and tombows I really don't like and I ditched them, once and for all. I do still have enough of best artist coloured pencils to use. I intend to use with my watercolour paintings for a few months, then ditch what I don't want. I'm keeping a few. Same with tombow, the greys and lilacs for shadows etc.I have the caran Dache goache as well. Will use a bit longer.
By being brave and ditching it will stop me buying on a whim. I will only replace with like for like. Good blog though. Anyone on this site with to many materials should read it. Don't get me started on sketchbooks!

I think sometimes, as with all purchases in life that are either mistakes, bought out of not missing out, or just don't like in the end. Whether art materials, clothes or cosmetics, the energy of the money has been spent. Not going to get it back. That's why I came to the decision of doing one or two paintings using them (just in case I changed my mind), then ditch. Personally, and this is because I'm a cosy minimalist and a the queen of decluttering, I decided not to keep them. It's all good fun isn't it !
