Now, I try not to encourage advertising ..... unless paid for.  But - can you beat this?   Long delay in producing any kind of art work this year - but the itch is upon me, so I ordered some watercolour paper, and a bottle of Linseed Oil, from Ken Bromley's website - yesterday afternoon, I think. It arrived TODAY, before mid-day!  How on earth can you beat that?  I know Jackson's are good too, and I don't suppose other art supply companies slouch at turning orders around, but that was truly fantastic service.   And while I'm at it - I got the Linseed Oil in a proper glass bottle, i.e. from Daler-Rowney not W&N's ghastly plastic: and I could unscrew the top, without giving myself a dislocated shoulder-blade or tennis-elbow (unlike the offerings from - um, yes, sorry: W & N).   Now to stop procrastinating and get on with DOING something with my new goodies!
I've always found KB very good - have to say Jacksons a little less so.   Best of luck with the painting!
Yes those dreadful plastic bottles from W&N, everyone complains about them online, yet they do nothing about it! I have to cut the top off and try and remove the top seal, it’s damn dangerous work. I hadn’t realised Daler Rowney used glass, so glad you mentioned it Robert. I must admit that my preference these days is Jackson’s, they have a better range of the products I use. They also have a next day delivery as most of them do, apart from Great Art of course, who’s warehouse is sited in Germany.
I always use Ken Bromley, they provide an excellent service - and I’ve found in the past that their prices have sometimes been more competitive than Jackson’s, although as Alan points out, Jackson’s do have a wider range of products.
Grantham's Art Discount is another good one; plus the Canvas Store, and Rosemary & Co.  I suspect the country would run a lot better if art supply companies were responsible for it.  And I'm told Cass Arts are good.  I've never tried Great Art/Gerstaecker .... huge range, though as with Jackson's, not always what I happen to be looking for....
I agree that Ken Bromley and Jacksons are both excellent and very quick, also Rosemary for their lovely brushes. I’m near enough to be able to drive to Jacksons in Gloucester and they are very helpful and knowledgeable in the shop also.
I will certainly try the Daler Rowney bottles having struggled for a long time with the wretched W&N plastic versions.
Bromley's have the added advantage of sending me a printed catalogue - much easier to browse than a website
Up until 3 weeks ago I lived within walking distance of Jacksons and would pick my orders up from the shop even though I could get them delivered for free. The staff are really good in there. Fast forward to yesterday and I did an online order from them. £9.71 shipping - gulp! Purely because I now live in the Highlands. If John Lewis and other well known companies can deliver here for free, I do wonder if certain delivery companies are over-charging just because they feel they can get away with it? I will certainly be reconsidering where I get my art supplies now and will take delivery charges into account before I place an order.
Audrey, have you tried Ken Bromley? They usually do post free for orders over about £40. I think it may vary a bit and are on a par with Jacksons for price etc. We’re you at the Gloucester plein air day last July? I chatted to a couple of ladies when I was painting the clock on the wall with the four figures, and thought one of them was an Audrey.
Hello Audrey, are you anywhere near Inverness? If you are, there was a very good art supplies shop there where you can get most well known brands. In fact, if I remember rightly, you can ring them, place an order and they will post it out to you.
The shop is called Artmedia, it’s on Church street across from Leaky’s bookshop.
