In reference to a discussion elsewhere - I might say, e.g., I've just discovered Wotherspoon's fantastic new oil paint range (don't look, it doesn't exist) why don't you try it - it does this, that, and something else extremely well. That's a review and an opinion.  Anyone of course is free to come back with 'why are you recommending such a load of old rope?', because that's a review and opinion too. Actual adverts need to be paid for, by arrangement with the site owner's advertising manager.  Now, this is pretty obvious to well-established users, but they'll realize it's a comment for the guidance of people new to the site.  If we observe these differences, we can avoid falling out with anyone.  They may look like rather fine judgements, but I think they're clear enough if keen advocates of a product take the time to think it through.  And I hope that's not too patronizing...
Well if you are ‘canvassing’ support, count me in.
I value the reviews and opinions expressed by POL users, I think it's a valuable part of the forum.  Because we get to know them and  see their work, so we know it's a genuine appraisal. On occasion I've bought the object they were discussing.   There's a lot of very fine manufacturer's out there producing quality art materials, it sounds from the first impressions already expressed that the manufacturer whose products prompted this subject may well be one of them, but I don't want them joining in the forum discussions, and especially not starting forum topics about their products.  But they've removed their post...so that's good.  I shall be interested to read what our forum members have to say about their products.
Working on one of the ACF canvases as we speak, I’ll give more details when I’ve finished. ACF isn’t a huge conglomerate, more of a small bespoke business whose reputation is based around producing quality products for us artists. The owner, Graham, is passionate about his products, and is now advertising in the magazine, so he’s prepared to invest. Yesterday’s episode was a one-off, I’ve spoken with him and that’s sorted - newcomers to the site aren’t always aware of the rules regarding free advertising, tolerance and understanding is sometimes the best approach!
