I've just acquired the 24 tin of these, that is the full kit of 21, with a pencil each of dark, medium, and light, ordinairy charcoal pencils. I have to say that the colours are a bit drab, but that is only to be expected taking the nature of the beast, pigment, filler mixed with grains of charcoal, a bit like mixing all your paints with a touch of black before starting I suppose. However, all very usable, with a nice feel to them. They probably all work well, just plain drawing, my main use has been to lay a rough underpainting with soft pastel, and then working over the top with the tinted charcoal, yes, I supopose that could all be done with pastel pencils, but I find the TC, more subdued and sympathetic. I for one, I'm sure Derwent will be pleased to know, am hooked.bestMick
