And she may well have been older than that; I think she was, but memory plays us false.  Charlie dropped dead today with heart failure, begging foodstuffs till the very last.  Frankly, I cried my eyes out and am still doing so; why do these deaths hurt us so much?  I really don't know - I just don't.  Rest in peace, you greedy old devil, you've caught your last rat, and munched on the overhanging tail of your last dog.  We all loved you, however much you annoyed us over all these years.
Oh dear Robert, I feel for you. I can't find the right words for it, but believe me, in my heart I know exactly how you feel... everyone who loves their pet dearly has to go through this terrible pain... I once read something like a quote somewhere: The only price we have to pay is the grief if we let love into our hearts. I experienced it 2 years ago, and my remaining cat was also born in 2007... my thoughts are with you - and with Charlie. Even if they are only words, I suspect your Charlie had a wonderful life with you, full of joy right up to the end, that's an incredible amount... feel well looked after, all the best, tg. (ps: I apologize for any wrong words, it is the translator who translates my language into English.)
Tanja - ich verstehe - there you are, I understand the translation issues!  Charlie wouldn't have done, but then, Charlie didn't really care... Thank you for your comments.  I don't know why this hurts so much, I really don't, but - it just does.
Oh, I am very sorry Robert. Having dogs myself there are no words to express how painful it is when we loose one of our pets. Life is enriching by having them in it and they take a piece of us when they depart.
I'm very sorry that you have lost your lovely companion Robert, they become part of our family which is why it hurts so much when we lose them. That is a lovely memorial painting of Charlie. My thoughts are with you during such a sad time.

Robert I totally understand how you are feeling we get so attached to our pets whatever they are. I was heartbroken when my dogs died and a few years on I still miss them so much.
Condolences, Robert. Sorry to hear it.
So sorry Robert. It’s a year since we lost our very springy spaniel. 😢
Very sorry to hear this Robert. Dogs are with you all the time and leave a big hole. Wonderful painting.
Ah Robert, so sorry to hear this. I’ve come close to tears at times even thinking about losing our 13 year old Oscar, god knows what I’ll be like when the day comes. And that is a beautiful painting of Charlie…
So, so sorry to read of this.  We share your pain many times but each and everyone has brought us love. Your Charlie looks (and sounds) like he was a fabulous dog with a big personality.  What a wonderful painting this is too.
Lovely Charlie….so sorry.
