Hi, has anyone tried painting onto stretched cotton? I imagine you could use size, but if I want the background to remain soft and dry, would priming with gesso on just the area to be painted work well? or any better ideas? thanks in advance :)
Canvas generally IS cotton - you don't need to size it with anything other than acrylic gesso if using acrylic (or oil, for that matter).  If by cotton you're thinking of something flimsier than canvas, say something like butter muslin, or even shirting fabric, you'd be better advised to stick it to a rigid panel - because it would be even more vulnerable to accidental damage than canvas is.
