If in doubt, ask Winsor and Newton - they're usually good at answering questions about the formulation of their paint. I don't know which of the several greens they make that is the problem, but some colours do take more medium to make them workable - I don't know that greens do; and this is more common with oil paint than with acrylic. But is is possible you might have happened upon a sub-standard tube - you wouldn't expect it from this manufacturer, but if in doubt ask. Does it behave normally in use - i.e., does it dry to a hard finish that can't be worked again?
Just what brand of acrylic varnish are you using? Artists Or decorators?
There seem to be a plethora of artists water based varnishes, from Liquitex, W&N have a couple of ranges etc - does anyone have experience if any give better results than others please?
Hi All, quick update. My amazing wife went back to the Art shop (25 miles). They were brilliant. They pointed out (as you know) W&N are great brand, quality etc. Couldn't be more apologetic. Upshot we've had the Sap Green replaced and as a gesture, we got given 75ml of Daler Rowney System3 Hooker's Green #352 and Lemon Yellow 651 to try out. Great service and will keep you updated on the meths etc.
