Hi guys, hope you are all doing well. I have been painting a small while now but want to improve. I would LOVE to go to classes but where I live there is very little for someone who works full time hours (and has kids) online tutorials I have found ok... but I would like a decent book to learn some skills as i go along. Does anyone have one on the top of their head that they would recommend for a beginner to learn some good basics?  If you have any ideas please share :)
Damn', this would have been a good time to mention mine, if only I'd gone ahead and written the thing!  I have one on the Amazon kindle store on oil paint basics, and was going to do another - but as yet haven't.  Which is of no use to you at all, of course.... Books on acrylics that actually ARE available .... and more to the point, in print....  Do a search for Ian Sidaway: I should be surprised if he hadn't written a book on acrylics, he's covered much else.  I don't know of any others that I could honestly recommend, but perhaps others can.
This is a useful book, depending on what you’re looking for of course! His landscapes are more atmospheric rather than romantic. It’s had a good write up in Leisure Painter! How to Paint Atmospheric Landscapes in Acrylic by Fraser Scarfe.

Fraser uses Interactive acrylics - i.e. the ones you can re-wet - or certainly did when I last clocked him.  But even so, much of it will still be applicable to 'regular' acrylics.
Ah!  My brain obviously went to sleep - Charles Evans!  He has a good many books, available from his own website, on acrylics and watercolour - a Google search will find him; and he also makes YouTube videos, of generous length.  There's one book on starting out, i.e. for the absolute beginner, and more besides.  A very different painter to Fraser Scarfe, so that would be a good selection, offering you a variety of painting techniques.

I didn't know the book by Charles Evans. But now I really want to read the book. And I'm interested in it from a professional point of view. After all, I work for paper nurse online service as a writer and editor. Therefore, I try to analyze as much of this content as possible in order to develop my writing style and work more efficiently. So thanks for sharing.

"Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain" by Betty Edwards: This book is known for its methods to help develop observational skills as well as unlock creative thinking. It is well suited for beginners and will help you build basic skills.
There's a good range of books on painting with acrylics in our online store https://www.painters-online.co.uk/store/products/acrylic/ - 20% off too!
This book can be quite valuable, depending on your specific needs, of course. The author's landscapes lean more toward an atmospheric style rather than a romantic one. It has received favorable reviews in Leisure Painter magazine! The book you're referring to is "How to Paint Atmospheric Landscapes in Acrylic" by Fraser Scarfe.
