Jerwood Solo Presentations Anna Bunting-Branch/ Imran Perretta/ Ben Burgis & Ksenia Pedan

Jerwood Solo Presentations 2017 will showcase the work of Anna Bunting-Branch, Imran Perretta and artist duo Ben Burgis & Ksenia Pedan in three concurrent exhibitions at Jerwood Space, London. The selected artists have each produced a new and distinctive body of work for their respective presentations. Diverse in content and materials, the commissions comment on separate but equally pertinent socio-political issues.

Anna Bunting-Branch uses science fiction as a methodology to re-vision feminism and its histories, remixing elements from a range of sources to generate new and imaginative resonances. In The Labours of Barren House, she will explore the feminist constructed language Láadan through sculpture and animation. The second presentation comes from fellow Slade alumni Imran Perretta, whose work takes a personal narrative as a starting point but reflects on wider questions surrounding identity, cultural histories and the violence of state surveillance. Perretta’s single channel video work brother to brother draws on the artist’s own experience of being detained at airports and border crossings. Ben Burgis & Ksenia Pedan are presenting Victoria Deepwater Terminal Estate Gallery, a sculptural installation and performance space comprising a showroom for a stunning 2 bed sewer conversion. The work will include a performance by Kiera Fox and Adam Christensen. Spanning animation, sculpture, film, installation and performance, the solo presentations are not connected by theme or medium but have in common an immediacy and biting political relevance. As well as an inherent social narrative, the exhibition will highlight the value of research-based practice, craftsmanship and the symbiosis between concept, process and materials. Now in its second edition, Jerwood Solo Presentations, part of the Jerwood Visual Arts programme, offers a platform for early career artists to make and show new work. Supported by Jerwood Charitable Foundation, the initiative aims to foster and develop potentially influential artists who are at critical stages in their career. The 2017 Jerwood Solo Presentations artists have been selected by the Jerwood Visual Arts team: Sarah Williams, Head of Programme and Oliver Fuke, Gallery Manager. Shamma Khana, previous Writer in Residence (2014), nominated Ben Burgis and Ksenia Pedan for the first Jerwood Solo Presentations exhibition in July 2016.
