En Plein Air For Beginners - 1-day Painting Workshop using Oils or Acrylics with Fran Russell & Joanne Weaver

Lime Wharf Cafe & Bodiam Boating Station, Rye Road, Newenden, Kent. Our 1-day workshops are designed for beginners who are new to painting in oils or acrylics in the open air.

We have 5 dates planned for the summer of 2017 at 4 different venues, offering a wide choice of subject matter to inspire you. At the Lime Wharf Cafe venue you can choose to paint beside the river Rother where you will have reeds and riverbanks, wildfowl, boats, kayaks, reflections and Newenden Bridge - or - you can paint beside the Lime Wharf Cafe where you can paint the cafe garden, pastoral scenes, camp-site, timber clad buildings & a cocktail bar with alfresco dining & parasols. At these workshops there will be two artists/teachers: Fran Russell - experienced oil painting en plein air landscape artist and tutor in oils and acrylics who has exhibited in London, Kent, East Sussex and Nottingham - and - Joanne Weaver BA, experienced sculptor, painter and tutor in oils, pastel and acrylics who has exhibited in London, Kent and Oxford. Both artists had work selected for The Royal Society of British Artists Annual Exhibition - the Society's 300th Exhibition - at the Mall Galleries, London in March 2017. Fran and Joanne will teach in partnership allowing students to choose their subject matter. Depending on the workshop venue this could be rolling hills, trees, big skies, rivers, boats, lakes and reflections, ponds, gardens, orchards, pastoral scenes or buildings. Fran and Joanne have different skills to share. This combined way of teaching will allow you the opportunity to learn so much more as the two tutors complement each other's styles and ways of working. The workshops are designed for beginners - those who are new to painting in oils or acrylics &/or those who are new to painting en plein air. You will learn about; setting up outdoors, finding your subject, composition, atmospheric perspective, colour mixing and application of your chosen medium. There will be a maximum 10 students per workshop with 2 tutors to ensure plenty of individual tuition. We have chosen venues that have a café & toilets nearby (within a 10-minute walk). Lunch and beverages are not included in the workshop price.
