Local clay from around Coombe can be used to make imaginative pots and sculptures with the emphasis on good design and a simplified approach. Jill Fanshawe Kato is an internationally renowned ceramicist and lecturer and exhibits widely in the UK, internationally and in Japan where she has had over 40 exhibitions. Jill has had a life long love of nature and is well known for her use of stylised birds, fish and plant forms and abstract blocks of colour inspired from her travels and her study of Japanese pottery. Her ceramics range from functional pottery to large sculptural commissions and sit somewhere between sculpture and painting as well as having both British and Japanese influences. Coombe’s spectacular location together with Jill’s expert teaching makes this creative break a wonderful and unique combination of artistic development and relaxation.
