Ceramics inspired by nature with Jill Fanshawe-Kato

A 5 day course with Jill Fanshawe Kato. Jill is an internationally renowned ceramicist and lecturer and has been teaching ceramics at Coombe Farm Studios for over 12 years. This course is for all levels from those wanting to explore clay for the first time to experienced potters wanting to work in a new direction. Taking place in early springtime in Devon, a stunning time of year when life returns to the earth and the hedgerows are fresh with bracken fronds, new leaves and flowers. This course offers a great opportunity for students to improve their skills in a more relaxed environment than is possible on shorter courses. The emphasis will be on simplicity and good design inspired by nature. Starting with handbuilding methods, students will create useful pottery for the table. Progressing to coiling large bowls and lidded pots and also try throwing on the potter’s wheel. Those who wish can progress to more individual sculptural forms.
